Raffles or Tan Tock Seng

The National museum has decided to erect a statue in front of its entrance. They have to choose Stamford Raffles and Tan Tock Seng.If you were working for the museum, who would you choose? And why?

If it was me, i would have chosen Tan Tock Seng. Tan Tock Seng was the first person who setted up a hospital to help in curing of the sickness and diseases that people had. He also helped in settling problems and disputes in the Chinese community. Although he was rich, he still donated a lot to charities to help other needy people. He had a passion for the sick and poor and buried unclaimed bodies using his own expenses. He always helped those who could not afford all these expenses. Tan Tock Seng was rich but he did not leave people who were less fortunate alone and do nothing. He was always welcoming for others to seek help from him.

Raffles only founded Singapore and turned it into a trading port which allows traders to trade things by sea. Although Raffles had gone through a lot like avoiding a conflict with the Dutch, Tan Tock Seng had to settle even more problems like on how to maintain the hospital in a good condition, and spending a lot of time and energy to help others in need. He had put in a lot of effort too. He also had to come out with methods on how to cure different types of illnesses.

Without him, Tan Tock Seng, Singapore might not have any hospitals in the past to help to cure sicknesses and people who were in need might not be able to get any help. Tan Tock Seng was the very great man who given up his own precious time to benefit others.

I think that you were wrong to say that Tan Tock Seng set up a pauper hospital. It was because he founded the hospital but not set it up. Can you please elaborate more about why you did not choose Raffles?

I think that even if Tan Tock Seng did not found a hospital, someone else will also found one hospital. It's only a matter of time.

I think Tan Tock Seng set up the hospital and he spend most of his money on setting it up. If he founded the hospital,he would have already not be the first person who have opened a hospital. I had stated that Raffles just founded Singapore and Tan Tock Seng had spend much effort in the hospital, which i mean that Tan Tock Seng went through much more difficulties.

I think that in the past, technology was not so advanced and it was difficult for a person to set up a hospital. Yes, in a matter of time, someone else may also set up a hospital. But i am going according to the present times where it is stated that only Tan Tock Seng set up a hospital in the past, just in the past, not in the present now. You said that it was only a matter of time, but until now i do not think that they had stated besides Tan Tock Seng, who else had set up a hospital in the past. Just in the past.
